Oil Ministry spokesman detained for 10 days

Claims arrest with no charge is political, taste of what’s to come in run-up to Parliament elections, and a threat to press freedom.

Assem Jihad, spokesman for Iraq’s Oil Ministry, said he and his assistant were detained by the Commission on Integrity’s (COI) security forces March 29 and held in a Baghdad office for 10 days.

Speaking by phone from Baghdad to Iraq Oil Report, Jihad said COI’s move was political, motivated by parties who want control of or to destabilize the Ministry of Oil.
