ERBIL - Austrian operator OMV will hand the Mala Omar and Shorish blocks back to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) after failing to find oil or gas in the five years since it signed exploration contracts.

"There was no commercial discovery," said OMV spokesperson Robert Lechner, elaborating on a recent trading statement in which OMV referred to Mala Omar and Shorish as "unsuccessful licenses."
