BAGHDAD - Although Iraq’s power supply remains inadequate, the Electricity Ministry has boosted baseload generation capacity to record levels and is better prepared than ever before to meet the demand spike that comes with the summer heat.

"The Ministry of Electricity has a new achievement of providing Baghdad and all provinces with 24-hour power per day, with the exception of Anbar province, which is provided with 16 hours a day due to targeting several power transport lines," the ministry said in a recent press release, in which it said power stations have been curtailed "due to excess power produced."
