BASRA - After weeks of protesting against unfulfilled promises of jobs and inadequate payments for farmland overtaken by oil field development, hundreds of residents of the villages around the West Qurna 2 oil field stormed the site.

The protestors attacked the Al-Iraq Al-Mu'asir Logistics Company, a local firm subcontracted by Samsung Engineering, which has a $998 million deal to build a central processing facility and other infrastructure at West Qurna 2.
