Q&A: Farhan al-Fartousi, director general of the General Company for Ports of Iraq

BASRA - As the director general of the state-run General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI), Farhan al-Fartousi oversees an array of operations that are integral to the country's oil sector, trade, and commerce.

In an interview with Iraq Oil Report, he highlighted the extent of the GCPI's operations, which facilitated the docking of 2,953 ships and tankers at Iraqi ports in 2025. That activity included exports of more than 15 million tons of petroleum products from the Khor al-Zubair port in 2025, Fartousi said.
