Q&A: Khalid al-Battania, managing director of Basra Gas Company
The head of Iraq's signature gas processing project discusses efforts to secure the supplies needed to exploit BGC's expanded capacity.
BASRA - The Basra Gas Company (BGC) sits at the cornerstone of Iraq's efforts to end gas flaring and boost domestic supplies of electricity feedstock to reduce dependence on costly and unreliable imports from Iran.
A joint venture of the state-run South Gas Company (SGC), Royal Dutch Shell, and Mitsubishi, BGC recently finished the Basra Natural Gas Liquids (BNGL) project, which raised BGC's overall gas processing capacity from 1 billion to 1.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (scf/d).
