Q&A: Najim Abdullah, director of the Zubair oil field commission

Iraq's number two oil field is planning to raise output by more than 200,000 bpd in the next three years — if it a can secure new supplies of water.

BASRA - Iraq's second-most prolific oil field is primed to unleash new production — but it needs water.

The Zubair field, operated by the Italian firm Eni, has averaged 465,000 barrels per day (bpd) so far this year, according to monthly data gathered by Iraq Oil Report, accounting for about one-tenth of the country's output.
