US gives Iraqi funds immunity

U.S. President Barack Obama has authorized a one-year extension of a 2003 executive order, set to expire last month, guaranteeing American protection of Iraqi funds held in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

It was a major turnaround by the U.S. government, which had said that a one-year extension granted in 2012 would be the last.
