Wasit, Dhi Qar push for state oil company status

AMARA - With oil production increasing after years of neglect in their natural resources, Dhi Qar and Wasit provinces are looking to enshrine their new status in Iraq's oil-dependent economy by creating their own provincial state oil companies.

Officials in both provinces are petitioning Baghdad to have their own oil companies spun off from the state-run South Oil Company and Midland Oil Company respectively.
