Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has warned Kurdistan politicians that the autonomous region's budget could be docked if oil is sold in Turkey without Baghdad's consent and called out Turkey for facilitating pipeline exports which his government insists are illegal.

"The only side in Iraq that is in charge of exporting oil is SOMO [the State Oil Marketing Organization]," said Ali Musawi, the spokesperson for Maliki. "This is the riches of the Iraqi people and they need to know about the amount of oil sold, and the prices."
