BAGHDAD - The Interior Ministry has approved 3,300 new full-time positions for the Iraqi Oil Police, largely to provide security for projects involving foreign oil companies, ending weeks of protests.

Security personnel were among the oil-sector workers demanding better compensation, job security, and improved working conditions. Contract security workers are paid less than full-time employees, do not receive the same level of equipment and training, and get no pension.
