Plans to revive the Iraqi National Oil Company more than a decade after it was scrapped by Saddam Hussein would give a big boost to the flagging oil sector, South Oil chief Kifah Numan said, Agence France-Presse reports. The reinstated national group would act as the parent of South Oil, Iraq's largest petroleum company, and the country's other two major oil operators, Numan said.

Iraq oil exports in January increased over December’s already five-month high. According to preliminary data, not yet published in detail by the Oil Ministry, Iraq produced exported an average 1.89 million barrels per day last month. Seventy-three percent of the exports were from the southern terminals in the Gulf, with the rest to Turkey via the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, as well as small amounts trucked to Jordan.
